Inmate Money

Every state prison has a Commissary which serves to provide inmates a bank type account for inmate funds and for buying things not issued regularly by the facility.

How to Send an Inmate Money

Family, friends, or other sources can send money to inmate’s Commissary accounts with Western Union or by mail.

Via U.S. Postal Service: Inmates’ families and friends can choose to send inmates money through the postal service and must send the money to the address below and do so in accordance with the steps provided below:

The money has to be in the form of a money order that is made out to the inmate’s full committed name and complete eight-digit register number. It is advisable to use a postal money order, since all non-postal money orders that are processed through the National Lockbox will be placed on a 15-day holding period, in which the prisoner will not get the funds. The Bureau of Prisons will return to the sender funds that do not have valid inmate information provided the envelope it was sent it has a valid return address. Personal checks and cash will not be deposited to the prisoner’s account so don’t send any checks or cash.
