Inmate Money

Each state prison has a Commissary that serves to provide prisoners a bank account for inmate monies and for buying items not provided by the facility.

How to Send an Inmate Money

Anyone may deposit funds to prisoner’s accounts using Western Union and the U.S. Postal Service.

Via U.S. Postal Service: Inmates’ families and friends can choose to send inmates money through the mail and will have to send funds to this address and follow the directions shows below:

The funds must be in a money order that is made out to the inmate’s full committed name and complete eight-digit register number. You should use a postal money order, since all non-postal money orders that are processed through the National Lockbox will be placed on a 15-day holding period, and in this time the prisoner will not have access to the money. The Bureau of Prisons will return to the sender any funds that do not have valid prisoner info but only if the envelope you sent it in has a return address. Checks and cash cannot be deposited to the inmate’s account so do not send checks or cash.
