Inmate Money

Every state prison has a Commissary that was started to provide a bank account for inmate money and for buying things not provided by the correctional facility.

How to Send an Inmate Money

Family, friends, or other sources may add money to inmate’s accounts by sending it by the U.S. Postal Service and Western Union.

Via U.S. Postal Service: Inmates’ families and friends are able to send prisoners money by way of the mail and have to send it to the address below and do so in accordance with the rules given below:

The funds have to be in a money order made out to the inmate’s full committed name and complete eight-digit register number. It is best if you use a post office money order, since all non-postal money orders processed through the National Lockbox will be held for a 15-day holding period, and in this time the inmate will not have access to the deposit. The Bureau of Prisons will return to the sender any funds that do not have correct inmate information provided the envelope you sent it in has a return address. Personal checks and cash will not be accepted so do not send any cash or checks.
