Anyone may add funds to prisoner’s accounts with the U.S. Postal Service and Western Union.

The funds must be a money order made out to the inmate’s full committed name and complete eight-digit register number. You are advised to use a U.S. Postal Service money order, since all non-postal money orders that are processed through the National Lockbox will be held for a 15-day hold, during which the prisoner will not get the funds. The Bureau of Prisons will return to the sender money orders that do not have appropriate inmate information if the envelope you sent it in has a valid return address. Personal checks and cash cannot be accepted so do not send any checks or cash.
