The funds have to be a money order that is made out to the inmate’s full committed name and complete eight-digit register number. It is best if you use a post office money order, since all non-postal money orders processed through the National Lockbox will be subject to a 15-day holding period, and during this period the inmate will not get the money. The Bureau of Prisons will return any funds that do not have correct prisoner info but only if the envelope it was sent it has an adequate return address. Personal checks and cash cannot be accepted so don’t send any checks or cash.
