Inmate Money

Every state prison has a Commissary that was started to provide an account for prisoner funds and for purchasing things not provided by the Bureau of Prisons.

How to Send an Inmate Money

Friends, family, or other people may deposit funds to prisoner’s Commissary accounts with the U.S. Postal Service and Western Union.

Via U.S. Postal Service: An inmate’s family and friends can choose to send prisoners funds through the postal service and have to send money to the address below and follow the policies provided below:

The money must be a money order that is made out to the prisoner’s full committed name and complete eight-digit register number. It is advisable to use a post office money order, since all non-postal money orders processed through the National Lockbox will be kept for a 15-day hold, and during this period the inmate will not have access to the money. The Bureau of Prisons will send back money orders that do not have correct prisoner info but only if the envelope you sent it in has an adequate return address. Checks and cash won’t be accepted so don’t send any checks or cash.
