Inmate Money

Each prison has a Commissary which serves to provide a bank account for inmate money and for buying items not provided by the prison.

How to Send an Inmate Money

Anyone can add funds into these accounts by sending it by Western Union and the U.S. Postal Service.

Via U.S. Postal Service: Inmates’ families and friends can choose to send inmates money in postal mail and will have to send funds to the following address and follow the rules provided below:

The funds have to be in a money order that is made out to the inmate’s full committed name and complete eight-digit register number. You should use a post office money order, since all non-postal money orders processed through the National Lockbox will be held for a 15-day hold period, in which the prisoner will not have access to the deposit. The Bureau of Prisons will send back funds that do not have valid inmate information provided the envelope you sent it in has an adequate return address. Personal checks and cash can’t be accepted for deposit so do not send cash or checks.
