Inmate Money

Every state correctional institution has a Commissary which serves to provide prisoners a bank-like account for prisoner money and for buying items not provided by the facility.

How to Send an Inmate Money

Anyone can add funds to inmate’s Commissary accounts with Western Union or by mail.

Via U.S. Postal Service: An inmate’s family and friends can choose to send inmates money through the mail and have to send it to the address below and follow the rules written below:

The funds must be in a money order made out to the inmate’s full committed name and complete eight-digit register number. It is best if you use a postal money order, since all non-postal money orders processed through the National Lockbox will be subject to a 15-day holding period, and during this period the prisoner will not have access to the deposit. The Bureau of Prisons will return any funds that don’t have valid inmate info provided the envelope has a return address. Personal checks and cash will not be deposited to the inmate’s account so don’t send cash or checks.
