Inmate Money

Every prison has a Commissary that was created to provide prisoners an account for inmate funds and for buying things not issued by the correctional facility.

How to Send an Inmate Money

Friends, family, or other people may deposit funds to these accounts by sending it by Western Union and the U.S. Postal Service.

Via U.S. Postal Service: Inmates’ families and friends are able to send prisoners money in postal mail and must send funds to the following address and do so in accordance with the policies shows below:

The money must be a money order made out to the inmate’s full committed name and complete eight-digit register number. You are advised to use a U.S. Postal Service money order, since all non-postal money orders processed through the National Lockbox will be placed on a 15-day hold, and during this hold period the inmate will not have access to the money. The Bureau of Prisons will send back any funds that do not have appropriate prisoner information provided the envelope it was sent it has an adequate return address. Cash and checks won’t be deposited to the inmate’s account so do not send any checks or cash.
