Inmate Money

Each state prison has a Commissary that was started to provide inmates a bank account for inmate funds and for buying items not provided by the correctional facility.

How to Send an Inmate Money

Family, friends, or other sources may deposit funds to these Commissary accounts with Western Union and the U.S. Postal Service.

Via U.S. Postal Service: An inmate’s family and friends are able to send inmates money by way of the postal service and have to send funds to the address below and follow the steps provided below:

The deposit must be in the form of a money order made out to the inmate’s full committed name and complete eight-digit register number. You are advised to use a U.S. Postal Service money order, since all non-postal money orders processed through the National Lockbox will be held for a 15-day holding period, and in this time the inmate will not have access to the deposit. The Bureau of Prisons will return money orders that don’t have correct inmate info provided the envelope it was sent it has a valid return address. Checks and cash won’t be deposited to the inmate’s account so don’t send any checks or cash.
