How to Send an Inmate Money

Family, friends, or other sources can send money into these Commissary accounts with Western Union and the U.S. Postal Service.

Via U.S. Postal Service: An inmate’s family and friends can to send prisoners money in postal mail and will have to send the money to the following address and follow the steps shows below:

The money must be a money order that is made out to the inmate’s full committed name and complete eight-digit register number. You are advised to use a U.S. Postal Service money order, since all non-postal money orders processed through the National Lockbox will be subject to a 15-day hold, during which the prisoner will not get the deposit. The Bureau of Prisons will send back funds that don’t have valid inmate info provided the envelope has an adequate return address. Cash and checks won’t be accepted for deposit so don’t send checks or cash.

Inmate Visitation Schedule

Visitation is by appointment only and is scheduled Tuesday – Saturday. Visitors must be on the inmate’s approved visitation list. To schedule an appointment, call 252-462-4050 Tuesday – Friday between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. Visitors must call at least 72 hours in advance and no more than 14 days prior to the visit. Inmates will be limited to three approved visitors per session. Visits will not occur on state holidays, Sunday and Monday.

Victim Notification

The Department of Justice Victim Notification System (VNS) is a system that provides victims with information pertaining to their case and/or any defendants in the case. You will receive a Victim Identification Number (VIN) and a Personal Identification Number (PIN) that will allow you to access VNS via the internet or by phone. Here, you will find information about future court hearings, historical court events, and detailed information about the defendant. This will include criminal charges filed, the outcome of charges, sentence imposed, custody location, projected release date and any other release information. The VNS website is updated daily. You will also receive any ongoing information by mail or email.
