Every prison has a Commissary which was created to provide prisoners an account for inmate monies and for buying items not provided by the Bureau of Prisons.

How to Send an Inmate Money

Family, friends, or other sources can send funds to inmate’s accounts by sending it by Western Union or by mail.

Via U.S. Postal Service: An inmate’s family and friends are able to send inmates money in the mail and must send funds to this address and follow the directions written below:

The deposit has to be in the form of a money order that is made out to the prisoner’s full committed name and complete eight-digit register number. You are advised to use a postal money order, since all non-postal money orders processed through the National Lockbox will be placed on a 15-day holding period, and in this time the inmate will not get the deposit. The Bureau of Prisons will return to the sender funds that don’t have valid inmate information if the envelope it was sent it has an adequate return address. Cash and personal checks cannot be deposited so don’t send cash or checks.

Inmate Visitation

Before you visit Warren Correctional Institution, you must know the following:

Inmate Visitation Schedule

Visiting days will be Tuesday through Saturday. Visitors must call the Institution Visitation Section at (252) 456-2820 to set up an appointment. Appointments can be made Tuesday through Friday, 9:00am – 4:00pm only. Visits must be scheduled at least 24 hours in advance, but no more then 14 days in advance.
Minimum and Medium Custody – Regular Population
The visiting sessions will be from 9:00am – 11:00am and 1:00pm – 3:00pm. Visitors should arrive at least 15 minutes prior to the scheduled visit. Three visitors will be allowed per visit; this includes children. The duration of the visits will be a maximum of two hours. Inmates will be allowed one visit per week.
Non-Contact Visiting – Regular Population
The visiting sessions will be at 9:00am, 10:00am, 1:00pm and 2:00pm. The duration of the visit will be 1 hour.
Non-Contact Visiting – Intensive Control Population
The visiting sessions will be at 9:00am, 10:00am, 1:00pm and 2:00pm. The duration of the visit will be 1 hour. Inmates will be limited to 2 visits per month.

Visitation Sign-In and Check-In

The entrance guard will ensure each visitor signs the prison visitors log when they enter the facility and upon exiting.

Victim Notification

The Department of Justice Victim Notification System (VNS) is a system that provides victims with information pertaining to their case and/or any defendants in the case. You will receive a Victim Identification Number (VIN) and a Personal Identification Number (PIN) that will allow you to access VNS via the internet or by phone. Here, you will find information about future court hearings, historical court events, and detailed information about the defendant. This will include criminal charges filed, the outcome of charges, sentence imposed, custody location, projected release date and any other release information. The VNS website is updated daily. You will also receive any ongoing information by mail or email.
