Inmate Money

Every prison has a Commissary which was created to provide prisoners a bank account for inmate money and for buying things not issued to inmates by the prison.

How to Send an Inmate Money

Anyone can add money to prisoner’s accounts by sending it by Western Union or by mail.

Via U.S. Postal Service: An inmate’s family and friends can choose to send inmates money through postal mail and have to send the money to the address below and follow the rules given below:

The money has to be in the form of a money order that is made out to the prisoner’s full committed name and complete eight-digit register number. You are advised to use a postal money order, since all non-postal money orders processed through the National Lockbox will be subject to a 15-day hold, and in this time the inmate will not get the money. The Bureau of Prisons will return any funds that do not have correct inmate info provided the envelope has an adequate return address. Checks and cash can’t be deposited to the inmate’s account so do not send any checks or cash.
