Inmate Money

Each state correctional institution has a Commissary that was created to provide a bank-like account for inmate monies and for purchasing things not issued by the facility.

How to Send an Inmate Money

Friends, family, or other people can add funds into these accounts by sending it by Western Union or by mail.

Via U.S. Postal Service: Inmates’ families and friends are able to send prisoners funds in the postal service and have to send money to this address and do so in accordance with the steps shows below:

The money must be in a money order made out to the prisoner’s full committed name and complete eight-digit register number. You should use a U.S. Postal Service money order, since all non-postal money orders processed through the National Lockbox will be kept for a 15-day hold, in which the inmate will not have access to the money. The Bureau of Prisons will return money orders that do not have correct inmate information provided the envelope has a return address. Cash and checks won’t be accepted for deposit so don’t send any checks or cash.
