Each prison has a Commissary which serves to provide inmates a bank-like account for inmate money and for buying items not issued by the correctional facility.

How to Send an Inmate Money

Anyone can send money to inmate’s accounts by sending it by the U.S. Postal Service and Western Union.

Via U.S. Postal Service: Inmates’ families and friends can choose to send prisoners funds by way of the postal service and will have to send those funds to this address and follow the rules listed below:

The money must be a money order that is made out to the inmate’s full committed name and complete eight-digit register number. You are advised to use a post office money order, since all non-postal money orders processed through the National Lockbox will be subject to a 15-day holding period, in which the prisoner will not get the funds.
