Inmate Money

Each state prison has a Commissary that serves to provide a bank type account for prisoner funds and for purchasing things not issued to inmates by the prison.

How to Send an Inmate Money

Family, friends, or other sources may add funds to prisoner’s accounts using Western Union and the U.S. Postal Service.

Via U.S. Postal Service: An inmate’s family and friends can choose to send prisoners money by way of the postal service and will have to send it to this address and do so in accordance with the steps listed below:

The deposit must be in the form of a money order made out to the inmate’s full committed name and complete eight-digit register number. It is advisable to use a U.S. Postal Service money order, since all non-postal money orders that are processed through the National Lockbox will be held for a 15-day holding period, in which the prisoner will not get the money. The Bureau of Prisons will return to the sender money orders that do not have appropriate inmate information provided the envelope has a valid return address. Cash and checks won’t be accepted for deposit so do not send checks or cash.
