It is advisable to use a U.S. Postal Service money order, since all non-postal money orders processed through the National Lockbox will be placed on a 15-day hold, and during this period the inmate will not get the money. The Bureau of Prisons will return funds that don’t have appropriate prisoner info provided the envelope has a valid return address. Cash and checks cannot be accepted so don’t send any cash or checks.
