You are advised to use a postal money order, since all non-postal money orders processed through the National Lockbox will be held for a 15-day holding period, and in this time the prisoner will not have access to the money. The Bureau of Prisons will return any funds that do not have valid prisoner info but only if the envelope it was sent it has a valid return address. Cash and checks will not be deposited to the inmate’s account so don’t send checks or cash.
