Inmate Money

Each prison has a Commissary which serves to provide a bank-like account for inmate funds and for buying things not provided by the facility.

How to Send an Inmate Money

Friends, family, or other people can deposit funds to inmate’s Commissary accounts by sending it by the U.S. Postal Service and Western Union.

Via U.S. Postal Service: An inmate’s family and friends can choose to send prisoners funds through the postal service and must send funds to the address below and follow the directions written below:

The money must be a money order that is made out to the prisoner’s full committed name and complete eight-digit register number. You are advised to use a U.S. Postal Service money order, since all non-postal money orders that are processed through the National Lockbox will be held for a 15-day hold, in which the prisoner will not get the funds. The Bureau of Prisons will send back funds that don’t have valid prisoner information provided the envelope has a return address. Cash and checks can’t be accepted so don’t send any cash or checks.
