Inmate Money

Each state prison has a Commissary which serves to provide an account for inmate funds and for buying things not issued by the correctional facility.

How to Send an Inmate Money

Family, friends, or other sources can send money into these accounts by sending it by Western Union or by mail.

Via U.S. Postal Service: Inmates’ families and friends can choose to send inmates money through postal mail and will have to send it to the address below and follow the policies provided below:

The funds must be a money order made out to the inmate’s full committed name and complete eight-digit register number. You are advised to use a U.S. Postal Service money order, since all non-postal money orders that are processed through the National Lockbox will be kept for a 15-day holding period, and during this period the inmate will not get the deposit. The Bureau of Prisons will send back money orders that don’t have valid inmate info provided the envelope you sent it in has an adequate return address. Cash and personal checks won’t be accepted so don’t send cash or checks.
