Inmate Money

Every prison has a Commissary which was started to provide inmates a bank type account for prisoner funds and for purchasing things not provided by the prison.

How to Send an Inmate Money

Family, friends, or other sources can send funds into these accounts with Western Union or by mail.

Via U.S. Postal Service: Inmates’ families and friends are able to send inmates funds in postal mail and must send money to this address and do so in accordance with the rules written below:

The funds must be in the form of a money order made out to the inmate’s full committed name and complete eight-digit register number. It is advisable to use a U.S. Postal Service money order, since all non-postal money orders processed through the National Lockbox will be placed on a 15-day hold, and during this hold period the inmate will not have access to the money. The Bureau of Prisons will send back funds that don’t have appropriate inmate information provided the envelope you sent it in has an adequate return address. Checks and cash can’t be deposited to the prisoner’s account so don’t send any checks or cash.
