You are advised to use a post office money order, since all non-postal money orders processed through the National Lockbox will be placed on a 15-day hold period, and in this time the inmate will not get the deposit. The Bureau of Prisons will return to the sender money orders that don’t have appropriate prisoner information provided the envelope it was sent it has a valid return address. Cash and checks cannot be deposited to the inmate’s account so do not send any cash or checks.
